Week 11

It's week 11 yo! One more week and it's the end of my first semester in engineering! How quick time flew huh, kinda scary though..

Anyways, just want to share something here..

Have you had a friend / few friends who always gets on your nerves, but you still hang on to them?
This friend of mine, let's name that friend Ash*, is always late (never punctual, ok maybe 'hardly punctual'). Now, one thing I really dislike is when someone is always late, or someone who breaks their promises. Ash is a good friend I must agree, but Ash is always, how do I describe it, blur.

Ash doesn't get it if you're mad, doesn't get it if you're upset over something and doesn't get it if Ash in person made a mistake (though I always explain what I'm upset, pissed off etc). Ash knows I hate when people is not punctual, yet Ash never changed, always kept me waiting if we go out for lunch after class. One thing that got me really upset was the way Ash 'handled things' today. I was feeling unwell (Ash knew about it), and before lunch, Ash wanted to go for a short meeting, a discussion actually, for like 15-30 minutes. So the plan was, 30 mins meeting, lunch later, and gym next. I waited for Ash for 30 mins, as promised, and then I asked "so what time will you be done?", Ash "ermmm... if you want to go first, you may" I know this answer doesn't intend to offend me or something, but dude, you knew I was feeling unwell, you agreed to have a short meeting, followed by lunch, agree to accompany me for lunch, and now, asked me to go on my own? I know I might sound insensitive for Ash is having a meeting, but what they did during the meeting was just watching videos regarding their project (they said they were going to discuss the topic and delegate the job, in the end, they sat there watching videos related to the project, which you can do it on your own, don't have to do it together right?) and the thing is, this is not the first time that it happened...

A week ago, a whole bunch of us wanted to go for a movie to the nearest mall, so i told Ash that I'll be there at 4 (movie was at 6.30), and we'll grab something to eat later on. At 4.30 I phoned Ash "where are you?" Ash "Sorrryyyy.. I'm still at the hostel.. you told me to eat first right?" "no.. i said we're eating together.."
You see, the first thing Ash said was "sorry", obviously Ash knew that Ash did something wrong. Oh and Ash can't call me because phone ran out of credit, you have 2 phones man! And in the end, I was all alone for 2 whole hours there! And yes I was mad, but i tried to, you know, just calm down, telling myself that it's not a big deal.
I always felt like Ash knew what was the mistake yet never made any effort to change them. Is Ash taking me for granted?

I know this blog is about my experiences in Engineering, but things like these are what bothers me all day. Yes, I might sound sensitive by being offended by trivial things like this. However, all (not really all) friends of mine are like this, never punctual! Why are they all like this...?

So guys, sorry for this super long complaint about Ash,
moral of the story here is:
  • Be punctual - Your bosses will not tolerate employees who are always late. It ruins the image of the company. So start being punctual now! By arriving on time to gatherings with friends etc.
  • Keep your promises Yes, I know it is VERY easy to make promises, and it is also very easy to break them. So, either you don't promise people too easily, or have this principle, to always keep your promises.
  • Make effort if you really want to change  - If you really care for something , work hard for it, it may not be easy, but with discipline and determination, things will turn for the better. I know that people always say things like "I don't live every day to please you". My dear, we live in a world where we have to face people every day, for the rest of our lives. We need the unity and the cooperation of others to make the impossible possible. Take away that egoistic side of yours and learn to change for the better. Changing will not make you NOT YOU, it just makes you a BETTER YOU.
*Ash is not the real name of this friend of mine
 * No terms are used to reveal 'Ash's' gender

I appreciate comments if you have something to say =) Maybe a piece of advice for me, like how to not be overstress by these small things...

Week 10

In just a blink of an eye, 10 weeks of the first semester of Engineering has passed.

This week:
Reports, projects and assignments deadlines overlapping each other, long hours of lectures in the freezer-like auditorium, lack of sleep due to the inability to balance academic life and social life.

But thank God after next week I can finally focus on my finals, which will begin in 3 more weeks, yay!

LOL I'm excited for finals not because of "finals", but because of what I'll be doing after finals - working on SEM!!

Nope, ain't gonna tell you what SEM means if you don't know what it is. I'll tell you soon enough.. It will be another full month of hard work, sleepless nights, but in the end, it will all be worth it, and I'm EXCITED!

So yup, this will be my first post for this blog, introducing what my life is like in Engineering, a course that I never expected myself to take.
